The Origin of Gwen Miller Magic Balm

Magic Balm is based on a recipe used by many generations of the Maertens family in Bruges, Belgium. This recipe survived the “chemicalization” of natural remedies as it is believed that pure, natural remedies have superior healing abilities.

This age-old recipe is recorded in medieval medical journals. Traditional recipes used three main herbs: St. John’s wort, Calendula and Arnica that were picked in the wild at specific times of the year and made into ointments and creams, then kept handy in case of emergency.

Gwen Miller, obsessed with the study of medicinal value of flowers and the efficacy of plant remedies met Norbert Maertens, one of the descendants of the Maertens family in 1994. He shared the secret family recipe with Gwen Miller.

Today, in pursuit of natural advocates, Gwen continues to study the uniqueness of the secret ingredients and how they might be improved.

It All Started in the Kitchen

Ever since a little girl, Gwen had always wanted to help people.

Gwen's life's work includes foot reflexology (since 1976), alternative therapies and Nursing (LPN since 2000).

Her interest in plants, and helping people, lead her to become an instructor in Wild Edibles and Seaweeds (Malaspina College 1984).

Gwen and her students would walk into deep woods, identified plants, gathered and cooked them up into delectable gourmet feasts. They would together study medicinal uses and qualities of flowers and plants.

Certain flowers such as St. John's Wort, Arnica and Calendula are known for their anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, anti-biotic and anti-fungal properties.

Gwen started picking those flowers, in the local area of Vernon and Silver Star Mountain, creating a healing salve. Nurse Gwen's Magic Cream was born in 1995.

Based on the original formula, Gwen decided to share the benefits of her Magic Cream by producing even better skin care products. Clients, friends and family from around the world have expressed how Nurse Gwen’s Magic Cream was helping all different types of skin issues. From these communications Gwen started her official business with the launching of:

  • Magic Balm NPN #80034562
  • Face Cream - Aromatic Moisturizer - Anti-Wrinkle Formula
  • Healing Massage Oil
  • Healing Balm Stick

These products are made with 100% natural ingredients derived from plants and flowers. No animal products are used. The flowers have been picked by Gwen herself, her family, and helpers in the Okanagan Valley.

In August 2012, Gwen was awarded an NPN for MAGIC BALM. The product is now made up in a Government Inspected Facility in Kelowna where ingredients and combinations have been researched, tested and developed in a laboratory.
